Karavasta is the most important bird area of Albania due to the elevated number of birds distributed in a rich diversity of different habitats including vast wetlands, rivers (Shkumbini in the north and Semani in the south), small ponds, estuarine waters, pine forests and scruby vegetation, sand dunes, etc. Karavasta offers temporary or permanent shelter to more than 245 species of birds compared with 330 observed all over Albania.

Shkodra Lake is an Important Bird Area known to many for its evergreen colors. The water surface offers excellent ground for thousands of wintering waterbirds whose population is dominated by diving species, including Pygmy CormorantsTufted DuckPochardsCrested GrebesGoldeneyes, and Coots. .

Birdwatching Narta Lagoon / 1 Day

Arrival in the Salinas of Narta and start of the 1 st Birdwatching Trail (by car)
It offers sightings for birds adapted to dry soil and feeding on insects such as Stone Curlew
(Burhinus oedicnemus), several species of Plovers as well as passerines including Wagtails,
Larks etc.
The water ponds would offer spotting stops for several wading birds including Flamingos,
Avocets, Black-winged Stilts, Plovers, Shanks, Sandpipers etc.

Local English Bird Guide meets us at the airport and we continue towards Divjaka-Karavasta National Park where we will spend one night. Around 19:00 o’clock we will check in the hotel in Divjaka. Quick introduction and survey of the area which we will have the pleasure to explore the next day. Dinner in Divjaka.

Birdwatching the Albanian Alps 8 Nights / 9 Days

Transfer early to Valbone via ferry boat and birding in lake Koman for Birds of prey, Goosander, Cormorants and Gulls. Lunch in the boat. Afternoon birding hike to see Larks, Swallows and Martins, Wagtails and Pipits, Dippers, Wrens, Accentors, Thrushes, Old World warblers, Old World flycatchers, Nuthatches, Treecreepers Shrikes, Crows, Starlings, Buntings, Siskins etc.

Dalmatian pelican / 6 nights – 7 days

English local guide welcomes the group in the airport. Departure to Divjaka-Karavasta National Park and check-in at the hotel in Divjaka.
Monitoring of the roosting sites for the Dalmatian Pelican in Divjaka. Other species to be observed are Stone Curlew, Pygmy Cormorant, Squacco Heron, Cattle Egret etc.

Birdwatching Albania

Natural Albania 7 Nights / 8 Days

Divjaka-Karavasta National Park is the home of the Dalmatian Pelican (Pelecanus crispus), the largest bird of Europe. The National Park is the only breeding place for the species in Albania with a colony of circa 80 breeding pairs located in a lagoon island. We will visit the colony from a safe distance with the possibility to take pictures of the breeding pairs and their chicks. The lagoon is a breeding site for other bird species too including: nesting colonies of Little Tern, Common Tern, Yellow-legged Gull & Pied Avocet as well as passerines such as the Black-headed feldegg race of Yellow Wagtail.
